Two years alive

Posted on Tuesday 27 September 2005

In what turned out to be a really stressful morning I got my quarterly test results back and everything is clear, clear, clear. No signs of cancer two years after treatment. Big, big, big hurdle to cross. I we need to have a party.

The doctor was 40 minutes late. About 10 minutes into the wait, his assistant poked his head in and said “Dr Hsu will be right in, he is reviewing your test results.” And then 30 minutes passed. It had already been a week of waiting since I got the blood work, chest X-ray, and CT scan. Last time he was late like that…well…he was busy rearranging his surgery schedule so he could yank out my tumor as soon as possible. Those 30 minutes were a special kind of hell I would wish on nobody. By the time he showed up Jul was coming apart and I had completely shut down. Dammit I wish doctors knew how to deal with people. The irony is I think I took several years off my life waiting for him to tell me I had a lot more to go.

Jul and I just got back from dinner at Tamarine where we celebrated the milestone. We ran into Sai who bought us some lovely champagne to mark the occasion. I wanted to stand up in the restaurant and yell “two years!” but that would have gotten me kicked out before I could finish my drink.

Thanks to everybody who have been by my side through it all. It has never felt so good to be alive.

Wow! We couldn’t be happier for you. We remember celebrating “One Year Alive” at Real Seafood in Ann Arbor. The celebration was made all the sweeter by having just seen a most incredible victory by Michigan over MSU (3 overtimes). We look forward to being with you this Saturday and raising a glass of champagne in celebration of your victory. Unfortunately, this toast will only be for you. Michigan and MSU meet again on Saturday and it doesn’t look to promising for the Wolverines.

We are so happy for you and Jul. We love you so much. –Mom and Dad

Congrats Scott! That is wonderful news. I am so glad you posted it, so that we didn’t have to beat around the bush. Wonderful Wonderful. Now you can enjoy a weekend away, and relax a bit. You & Jul certainly deserve it… and screw the stupid dr. What a jerk. But thank god for the news. Love you lots. The Etters

You have been handed some very interesting cards and such a young age. You are very blessed to go through these life experiences with such a wonder partner. Again you are very blessed.

Now you need to work on your surfing.

    Love Always,
    Uncle Phil
