37signals thinks you shouldn’t write a functional spec. I totally agree but I’m both lazy and not detail oriented so don’t pay any attention to what I say.

What these guys seem to be thinking of as a “functional spec” wouldn’t even have been used as toilet paper at Kintana or Mercury. If I had written only paragraphs of text and tried to pass if off as a “spec” I would not only have been berated in public and had it, literally, thrown back in my face but probably shot and fired too.
And if I’m the designer and I wrote it then how are “the designers not designing”?
