While we have been working on it for awhile, we announced our Wiki App strategy yesterday– I came to Jot to drive this growth area. We met with press like CNET and Intranet Journal last week and will continue with others this week.
The press release uses the word “strategy” which usually means “boring stuff that we are trying to make sound complex to mask the fact that it means nothing.” It is usually followed by something like, “We feel this strategy will really have synergy with our core focus group of prototypical users. It is just utilizing our web 2.0, software as a service, AJAX, long tail, platform to mash up what people really want. I think this is a totally new paradigm.” Ick.
But in our case, it is pretty simple. We spent the last year watching how people use Wikis [1]. While some want to start with a blank slate, many have a specific task in mind. We are using the Jot platform to build out a set of applications to support these tasks.
More to come…

[1] I actually spent my first day at Jot reading the first 14,000 ways people wanted to use Wikis with my favorite being “Evil plans for world domination, tasty local places for fried mackerel, long tail reactionary musings, conspiracy theories and favorite pickle jar labels I have seen.” But that is old news.

Nice press release, Scott. Congratulations. I know you worked really hard to shape this direction. Looking forward to watching it be successful!
