13 years later, same razor

Posted on Monday 27 March 2006

When I was 18, Gillette sent me package with a note that said “congratulations on becoming a man.” In the package was a Gillette Sensor. I’m still using the same razor and I have bought blades from them since then.

You know those cell phone kiosks in malls? Cell phone companies pay them $400 – $600 per activation. The average customer nets a cell phone company $2,000 – $3,000 during the life of their account.
I now host all my sites at Dreamhost. [1] If I refer a customer, I get $97.
Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

[1] Dreamhost is, without a doubt, the best hosting company I have ever had the pleasure of using. Dreamhost has one of the most innovative referral programs. They allow me to give referrals discounts by applying part of that $97 to a discount. I can generate discount codes right from my web panel.

I have been using the same razor for about ten years, and yeah, I buy the very expensive replacements…but I use coupons darn it!

I had no idea those kiosk guys made that much money, but it makes sense. Hopefully not much longer, unless the industry completely collapses to just three companies. ugh.
