Business success, product success

Posted on Friday 13 October 2006

Back in April I posted about how everybody will think your business model is stupid if you are doing something interesting. In June, I noted that Reed Hastings had articulated with more eloquence. In this theme, Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) has a great post on a related topic. He notes that “if everyone exposed to a product likes it, the product will not succeed.” He talks about how you need only need 10% of those exposed to the product to love it.

I would add that it is even better if a subset of those exposed passionately hate it.

If only having a product that everyone hates were sufficient. We’d be billionaires!
