“We were disappointed to hear of Wal-Mart’s decision”
Understatement of the month, made by Phillippe Krakowsky, executive vice president of Interpublic. The statement was made in response to Wal-Mart’s decision to reopen the search for Wal-Mart’s marketing agency. The contract is worth $580 million and was won not two weeks ago by a division of Interpublic. Interpublic won’t be eligible to participate in the new search.
Sometimes, even after you win, you can still lose.

That article is a hoot. In addition to apparently sleeping with a subordinate and accepting gifts from bidders, Wal-Mart’s marketing manager had the Eagles play an exclusive concert for the short-listed agencies. And then she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device, and unveiled the winner.
